Kittery, York County

Settled in 1623, right across the river.

Kittery was settled in 1623 and incorporated in 1647, and it calls itself the oldest incorporated town in Maine. It sits on the Piscataqua directly across from Portsmouth, a short trip for our crews.

Kittery is far more water than land. Of its roughly 75 square miles, more than 57 are water, with Spruce Creek, the harbor and islands like Badger's Island woven through town.

That shoreline shapes our work here: older homes near the water that need new foundations, lifting and flood protection, plus the usual repairs and site work inland.

What we see in Kittery

Point, Foreside and inland.

Three kinds of Kittery projects we see most.

Kittery Point

Seaside homes

Homes on the water at Kittery Point face storms and tidal flooding. Lifting and pile foundations keep them up and dry.

Foreside

Historic homes near the shipyard

The Foreside's older homes near the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard need careful foundation and structural repairs.

Inland

New homes and additions

Away from the shore, we clear and dig house sites, build foundations and handle additions.

Each service has its own page with Kittery details.

Coastal Kittery

Building on the tidal shore.

Much of Kittery's shoreline sits in FEMA flood zones, and work close to the water also falls under Maine's shoreland zoning rules. We plan lifts, foundations and digs around both.

Homes near the harbor, Spruce Creek and Kittery Point may be. We check your lot against the FEMA flood map during the site visit.

Do Maine's shoreland rules affect my project?

Work close to the water can fall under Maine's shoreland zoning. We look at what applies to your lot before planning.

Can you work on older homes in the Foreside?

Yes. Older homes are a big part of our foundation and structural work.
