What we see in Hampton
Beach, marsh and town.
Hampton has three very different building settings, and each calls for different work.
Hampton Beach
Oceanfront and beach homes
Homes near the ocean face the strictest flood rules. New work and major renovations in the coastal high hazard zone have to sit on pilings that let water pass underneath.
The marsh
Homes along the tidal marsh
Lots near the Hampton and Drakes rivers sit low and wet. Lifting, pile foundations and flood vents keep these homes above the water.
Town center
Older inland homes
Away from the shore, Hampton's older homes need the usual New England fixes: foundation repairs, rotted sills and sagging beams.
Hampton flood rules
Built on piles, by the rules.
Hampton adopted updated FEMA flood maps in 2015. Along the oceanfront, federal coastal high hazard standards apply, so new structures and homes going through major renovation must sit on pilings that let floodwater pass beneath. Town voters have also weighed extending that pile requirement to homes in the tidal wetlands district.

Hampton, Rockingham County
One of New Hampshire's oldest towns, on the coast.
Hampton was settled in 1638 as the Plantation of Winnacunnet and incorporated a year later. Its oceanfront grew into a resort in the 1800s once the railroad and trolley lines arrived, and the beach is still full of seasonal homes and cottages.
Nearly 12 percent of the town is water, with the Hampton and Drakes rivers draining through the marsh to the sea. That is why so much of our work here is about getting homes up and out of the way of the tide.
Inland, the ground rises to Bride Hill, the high point at about 150 feet near the Exeter line, where projects look much more like any other New Hampshire town.

FAQ
Hampton questions we hear often
Does my Hampton Beach home have to be on pilings?
Homes in the coastal high hazard zone generally must sit on pilings for new construction or major renovation. We check your lot's flood zone and explain what applies to your project.
Can you lift a beach cottage onto piles?
Yes. We lift the cottage, install the pile foundation and set it back down at the new height.
My house is near the marsh, not the beach. Am I in a flood zone?
Many homes along the tidal marsh are. We look at the FEMA flood map for your lot during the site visit.
Do you work on inland Hampton homes too?
Yes. Away from the shore we do the same foundation, structural and excavation work we do across New Hampshire.
